giveaway time ...

I am super excited about this blog ... & for a while there's been an idea in the works ... a giveaway ... between me & the incredible fabulous Jen Kiaba. I know i know i've mentioned her a couple of times before but well i love her work so we figured we'd a special giveaway. The chance to win two 10x8" fine art photographs, one from me & one from Jen. Two photographs that are currently unavailable for sale in our shops. Personally (& i know am a little biased) but i think she is a pretty awesome giveaway.

Jen is one of those photographers who inspires me, not to mention being one of my "go to" photography peoples. She creates these wonderful whimsical dream like images that could be straight out of the books of Lewis Carroll or C.S Lewis. She can create the kind of images i can only dream of.

So for one lucky winner you could be hanging both the photographs below on your wall. & all you have to do is tell me why you should win these prints or what you would do with these prints if you win. For an extra entree you can head over to Jen's blog & do the same there. & for another chance of winning you can tweet about the giveaway @levansphoto @jenkiaba. Please include your email address in your entree so we can contact you if you are the lucky winner! All entrees must be received by July 29th ... good luck!

  4. Jen, I love your work, because it is like you said, dreamy. The picture of the girl would hang in my guest bedroom, which is also my relaxation room. I go there to read a book, or just sit for a few minutes of down time. It is decorated with tones of brown and mint, so the sienna look would fit right in.The other wall treasures are from other countries, from missionary friends who have found respite here. As a guest room, I imagine my guests as saying goodbye to their real life, stepping into mine, if but for a brief visit. We live in a very remote part of our country far from the beaten path. No stores, restaurants, or the hub bub of the fast life. Our television went out recently, and frankly, we don't miss it a bit! We spend evenings by the fire chatting and reading good books, as if we stepped out of one of Hemmingway's adventures. Stop by some time, when you need to escape....the lights always on. Laura, I love your work also, and since we are a 700 acre cattle ranch, the family room would be the home of your pic..right there with the leather Native American dance dress, the longhorns and the collection of childrens cowboy boots. Kudos to both of you.

  5. Your photo reminds me of how I felt so left behind when my husband died, I felt so many things guilt, sadness, loss, missing the love and friendship I thought would always be there. That is where that photo takes me. As for Laura's, it reminds me of the little things left behind to appreciate after the loss, those things mean so much. It really gives you something significant and precious to hold onto.

They would both go next to my beautiful mirror in my bedroom, I will include pix if I win!!!

Love your work Laura! I am always grateful when Jen shows me the way to yet again something amazing and wonderful!!

  6. I think I should win these! With Sean gone and my boredom and loneliness growing, I've been trying to create small projects for myself. What I've really been trying to do is collect decor, specifically wall decor, to make things warmer for him when he comes home (and for me right now!).

Additionally, Sean has a passion for trees, especially bare ones. I think, if he were to come home to this, he'd absolutely fall in love with it.

Even if I don't win, I'm still a huge fan of your prints and i'll probably end up buying some anyways. Thanks, Laura.

  8. Three years ago my wife and I moved into a smaller home; downsizing in looking towards retirement in a year or so. We're still in the "getting our own look" to the house and we have yet to hang much on the walls.

I have several of my own photos that I plan on putting up and also a couple of older drawings of Colonial Williamsburg buildings.

Having these two photos would fit in well with those drawings, not to mention that I would be the proud owner of two photos from phtotographers whose work I admire and who are far better at photography than I. In fact, having these two photos would make my work look that much better because of their presence.

  9. I commented on Jen's blog, and got a little misty eyed and poetic with it! But I'll say that these pieces represent to me a piece of myself that I've been wanting to "say goodbye" to for a long time...Sometimes letting go of something is the only thing that can allow us to move forward- to move on to something more amazing than we ever imagined. I need a reminder of this. I have a hard time letting anything go because it's scary and fearful saying goodbye to anything or anyone. The new growth of nature and constant cycle around us can remind us just how nourishing moving forward can be. ;)

  11. Love the prints and the artists. They both represent lonliness and being different. Which I think we all feel once in a while. I have felt that way my whole life. Growing up with a single mom who was an alcoholic. I spent most of my childhood when I wasn't taking care of chores or my little brother on a large branch in my front yard, daydreaming, wondering what life was like for others. Hoping someday my life would change. It did, but the loneliness lingers like a bad dream. The one on the right is how I feel, walking away from the past , trying to leave it in its place and walking towards my future, a peaceful existence in a world with out sorrow and pain. I would put these above my desk where I work as a reminder of what life has to offer when we dig out of that pain and sorrow. HOPE.
