allure ...

I don't blog about my portraits as much as i should but those of you who read this blog or know me away from it know i fell in love Boudoir photography about a year ago & finally got up the courage to set up a studio in my basement this year. I've come to discover that a lot of people whilst interested in doing a shoot are incredible nervous & don't understand much about it.

When i think boudoir i think hollywood old school glamor, feminine, beautiful & stunning portraits of you! Boudoir is just that ... about you. Be confident & proud of your body, treat yourself & maybe share with the one you love.

"I'm no model lady. A model's just an imitation of the real thing." ~ Mae West

There is a great freedom that comes with boudoir, & being able to show you as the beautiful woman that you are makes me just a little giddy.

Boudoir photography is about capturing who you are as a woman, being gorgeous & feminine, classy & confident. It's also about having fun. It doesn't take a model figure, it's about showing the world (or just your husband) how proud you are of you.

So keeping this in mind i decided to hold a series of mini shoots called "allure" so people could get a taste of it. It was a wonderful success & the feedback has been incredible positive, not to mention i love that these women are honestly gobsmacked by how stunning they really are (i on the other hand already know this).

So here are a few images of one of my wonderful clients (& friends) ...

update ...

So i am sorry for the lack of posts ... everything has been incredible busy around here that something had to give & that has been my blog. The weather has sucked, leaving me feeling uninspired not to mention am starting to getting incredible tired at the end of my work day (for those of you who don't know i bartend at one of the busiest chilis in the world).  So i figured it was time to give you all an update on what's been going on because (& i can't lie on this one) ... it's all kinds of exciting!

Firstly i am now 33 weeks pregnant ... in theory i have just 47 days to go until the lil dude is born! We finally have furniture in his room & some things are even put away but no photos yet because it's not even close to being ready not to mention the rest of the house that needs attacking!

After much consideration about the direction of my etsy shop & talking to others i have decided to "streamline" it so to speak & went ahead & opened a new etsy store ... ooh pretty shiny
Over time i will be moving many of my current items into the new store where all my "whimsical", soft, dreamy image will be available for sale. It's about trying to have more cohesion in my stores & love.laugh.believe will continue to sell my more classic, contemporary work in both black & white & colour.

Lastly i did my first shoot in the studio & set up a facebook page dedicated towards love.laugh.believe/boudoir. I am so incredible excited about this, i have a few more shoots scheduled & will be sharing photos of the studio soon. It's wonderful to have opportunities for after the arrival of the lil dude that will hopefully allow me to continue my photography full time.

I want to say a big thank you for all the support, feedback & help i've been given these past few weeks as i try & get things set up for the arrival of our new son. It's scary & challenging & exciting all in one. I will try & keep you updated on a more regular basis but just know that if i'm not blogging it's not cause i don't love you guys any more it's just that i want everything sorted & ready for when the big day arrives & trust me i will be back in full force sharing with you all the pretty i see in the world!

the lovely Nelou ...

So my saturday was free from plans ... husband was working & i had no errands to run. Back in April i took part in a wonderful workshop put together by the Boudoir Divas. I learnt so much & got a chance to do some Boudoir of my own. Well since then i haven't done anything, mainly because i was scared of taking the risk. Sounds stupid but i was. The stupid thing is i love boudoir more than i do some other kinds of portraiture, i feel like it allows me more freedom to experiment & have fun. So a wonderful friend of mine willing let me "experiment" with her (& she had some wonderful ideas herself, not to mention a stunning house). So here's a few of the photos from our shoot ... a big thank you Nelou for being a willing victim in my quest to discover what i love.

The Boudoir Divas Workshop

So i've been putting off writing this blog ... not because i don't want to write it but because there is so much i want to write about & i'm not sure where to start but the beginning is usually a good place. I was lucky enough to take part in a workshop put together by the fabulous (& we are talking seriously fabulous here) Boudoir Divas. Now first i should probably explain who these wonderful ladies are ... well they are a group of girls based in San Diego who brought "back" boudoir photography & made it something new & pretty & shiny.
Marissa & Kimberlee the owners put on these workshops to help teach other photographers everything they know about the business (& we're talking literally everything) & wow did i learn a lot! I mean seriously i have learnt more than i ever thought i would. I knew the workshop would be a wonderful experience for me but i forgot how much i missed having people to talk with about the small, stupid & random stuff of photography. People who could answer questions & help show me the way.
We started out day one by talking through shooting boudoir photography, looking at the various poses, lighting & simple basic tricks that help bring out the most in the client. The Boudoir Divas strive to give their client's the ultimate super model experience, allowing them to feel glamourous & confident in themselves. Small things such as by slightly over exposing the subject it will help clean up their skin, examples of affordable lighting equipment that you or i could buy & the knowledge that you don't need a fancy studio to start out.
For the shooting we had 3 stunning models, all very different but equally gorgeous & as photographers it was our job to bring out the best in them. I'm trying to find the words to describe how hard the actual shooting was. From the perspective of an on looker everything appeared so easy but these are things that come from practice & time & more learning. We had two fast one on one shoots & one longer more continuous shoot. It took me a while to find me feet, so i found the one on one shoots incredible difficult, i couldn't get into them because i was so unsure of what i was doing. Not good but being as we only had half an hour & it was my first time i will let myself off. But in the continuous shooting i found myself getting more into it, understanding & seeing more as i went along & actually feeling comfortable directing. Ok i will admit it ... i'm pretty proud of the outcome!
Well i can honestly say, compared to day one day two was a breeze ... all business. But they provided us with so much information, everything from starting out & working out of a home based studio to creating a studio based business. From lightroom & editing, to money, pricing & marketing. & it was all things that could be applied to any photographic or even arts based business. & they were so open about it all, no holding back which is what made everything that bit more special. These are two successful business ladies willing to share everything they've learnt with us a small group of photographers from around the globe, from all warps of life & ranging in levels. I felt priveledged to be amongst them.
So what can i say i've walked away with ...
a much greater knowledge of all things photographic ...
a larger understanding on how i need to go about setting up my own business ...
equipment suggestions within my price range ...
the idea that it can be something small, & unique to me ...
there is no set way to go about all this but an idea to start from & a direction to head.
The workshop gave me so much, was worth every little penny & has left me more secure in the knowledge that photography is my future & that i can succeed. It won't be easy or especially pretty at times but it's what i want & what i love. Oh & i met some wonderful people a long the way who made the whole experience just a little more special! & there is so much more i want to write but really i don't know how to go about it but i imagine there may be another couple of posts out there about my experience.

boudoir ...

I have many many more photographs that i imagine will be posted over the coming weeks but editing has yet to happen. The Boudoir Divas workshop has been amazing & i'm so grateful that i had this opportunity. & well i couldn't wait to share a few so here's one of each of the 3 fabulous models we got the chance to work with.

self portrait come a whole bunch of other things!

There are so many things i want to write ... so many influences behind these images ... but right now I'm not sure how to explain them & i figure the longer i spend doing that the less chance i have of posting these on the internet for the world to see. let's just say i had some ideas in my head & went from there. They're not perfect but for my first try I'm pretty darn (yes i said darn) happy!
